The American Psychological Association (APA) and the APA Techers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) have two upcoming awards for teachers and students that may be of interest to NHCSS members. Please check them out below and at the links provided.
2019 APA TOPSS Charles T. Blair-Broeker Excellence in Teaching Awards These awards recognize outstanding teachers in psychology. There will be up to three annual awards. Winners will receive a framed certificate, engraved award, cash prize of $500, and a free TOPSS membership or renewal for the 2020 membership year. The deadline for submission is February 15, 2019. For complete details including how to apply, visit: https://www.apa.org/about/awards/teaching-excellence.aspx. 2019 TOPSS Competition for High School Psychology Students High school psychology students are invited to write an essay of no more than 3,000 words that addresses the topic of research with nonhuman animals in psychology. The essay should describe the role and relevance of nonhuman animal research in psychology, by referencing peer-reviewed research with nonhuman animals. Students will describe a hypothetical study that complies with and references nonhuman animal research guidelines. The essay should also address the implications of not conducting psychological research with nonhuman animals. Up to four winners will be selected for this year’s competition, each of whom will receive a $250 award. The deadline for submission is March 8, 2019.
