Pedagogy Resources

Pedagogy Supports

3-Minute Pause
The Three-Minute pause provides a chance for students to stop, reflect on the concepts and ideas that have just been introduced, make connections to prior knowledge or experience, ask questions, and seek clarification. The 3-Minute Pause will deepen students understanding of information and prevent you from re-teaching information. It provides students with opportunities to think about, make sense of, organize and reflect on their learning.

Education Place- Graphic Organizers
Help your students children classify ideas and communicate more effectively. Use graphic organizers to structure writing projects, to help in problem solving, decision making, studying, planning research and brainstorming.

Education Oasis- Graphic Organizers
Here you will find over sixty graphic organizers. They are PDF files. Note: Some of the graphic organizers may be filled out and then printed.

Gamification and Technology

Breakout EDU
The Breakout EDU kit allows for the facilitation of games where players use teamwork and critical thinking to solve a series of challenging puzzles in order to open the locked box. Games are available for all ages and content areas.

Playposit
PlayPosit is an online learning environment to create and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any online video (screencasts, Khan Academy, TED, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students, with time-embedded activities.

Common Core literacy Supports

Buck Institute for Education
At the Buck Institute for Education (BIE), our highest priority is to help teachers prepare students for successful lives. We do this by showing teachers how to use Project Based Learning in all grade levels and subject areas. As a mission-driven nonprofit organization, BIE creates, gathers, and shares high-quality PBL instructional practices and products and provides highly effective services to teachers, schools, and districts.

Dream of a Nation
Dream of a Nation has developed several unit plans aligned with the English Language Arts Common Core Standards. These units are designed to give students in-depth exposure to, and practice with, the critical writing, reading, listening, speaking and thinking which the Common Core demands.
